Catch The Blue Fish is an emotional album for many reasons. Several close relatives of the band members passed on and serious hardship led to the band’s first hiatus as a three-piece during the recording. The album remains a testimony of unbridled raw energy, soulful melodies with a scream of despair, dealing with life as it’s taken. The album was recorded in 2010-2011 and has never been released until 2023. The original inner cover (included as bonus item) shows the time and date of completion, which is now set as release date. 12-year cycles they say, bring it on!
This album was recorded, mixed, and produced by Remco at studio Cloud #11 in Eindhoven. He used several microphones on both guitar and bass cabinets to capture the live sound, with added double guitar tracking on most choruses. It was Remco’s first fully self-produced album. Still commencing as an engineer and bassist, he somehow managed to muffle his own bass, while mixing full bodied guitar sounds and vocal production to the centre. Most likely it was the large, boomy space that was used for mixing and the 4 (!) microphones that were used on the bass cabinet that might’ve been redundant. That being said, the mix seems fresh and powerful revising today, mixing again would take away the magic. It’s a heartfelt moment frozen in time, meant to be rediscovered. Catch the blue fish and set it free!
